Workshop Project: Summer Purse

GracesLinenPurse015732This lovely bag is knitted in a unique “yarn” which we have never carried before and is new for Spring. Grace is known for her creativeness when it comes to bags and purses and she’s been having tons of fun “playing” with this yarn.

The yarn very much resembles the straw bags we’ve all purchased and love. This photo is not the “exact” purse we’ll be knitting but will give you an idea of one of the patterns possible for this particular yarn. Grace is in the process of finaliziing ours and will provide “the real thing” soon. We all need surprises, right?

This is one of the projects featured in our Spring Workshop at Pine Lake Country Club in April.

It’s not over ’til the seaming’s done!  And there are so many ways to seam a garment!  A 2 hour class is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26th from 1pm-3pm which will cover the Mattress, Kitchner (grafting), 3 Needle, I-Cord, and crochet seaming methods.  You will need to knit in advance four 4″ swatches in stockinette stitch, and please don’t bind off any of your swatches.  Also, if you have any finished projects which need to be seamed, bring them with you and we’ll get them finished!

Vogue's Vine & Leaf Beret

Vogue's Vine & Leaf Beret

I couldn’t make myself choose just one of the charming hats from the Fall Vogue Knitting lineup, so here’s the Vine & Leaf Beret.  I blogged about the Eyelet Cap earlier.

Ruby 123 Bluesky Alpacas Silk

Ruby Red

I’ll be knitting a sample of Vine & Leaf out of the upscale Blue Sky Alpaca in a rich Ruby Red (#123) .

This project promises to be popular for gift giving and will be a quick project to learn how to use double-pointed needles if you need to expand your skills.

Eyelet Cap Vogue Knitting 9-09If Vogue Knitting is right, hats will be a hot item this fall and winter.

I’m making the one pictured here out of the fabulous Mericash Solid in the slate blue pictured below #401.

If it turns out for me as well as it did for Vogue Knitting, everyone’s going to want one for seasonal gift giving.

We’ll make plenty of kits in a variety of colors and offer classes for those who don’t know how to use double-pointed needles.

What fun!

Class schedules for July and August are being prepared and will be posted soon. Please make your reservation as soon as you can for the  “Knitspeak 101″ class,  July 18th from 9:30am to 11:00am. This is an incredible opportunity to meet  author Andrea Berman-Price and learn some invaluable tools for pattern reading.  Included in the cost of the class is an autographed copy of her book.  All this for $25.00! Other upcoming classes are some 1 day  scarf and wrap classes, Entrelac, the Hounds Tooth felted handbag, Mother and Daughter beginner’s knitting classes  and Berroco’s “Brea Bag”.  Kathy will have a special class on how to line a handbag. Another 1 day class is the Cafe’ Capelet we found on Ravelry. It’s an open weave little capelet/scarf that can be knit in a variety of yarns either for right now as an accessory or in more fall and winter yarns for warmth. Of course, as always, we will be offering beginning knitting and crocheting classes.

August will be “Classes on Demand!”   We’ve  scheduled Saturday classes as usual but we want YOU to determine the classes.  If you have a project that you’ve been wanting to make, but need help, set up a class. If there’s a class we offered and you could not make it at the time, now’s the time. How about a technique that you want to learn, we’ll show you.We have set aside Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays all through August for you to make up your own classes.  As always, yarn purchased for classes will be 15% off!
